ATLANTA—Retx, Inc. today announced it has signed a contract to provide its Load Management Dispatcher (LMD) to support ISO New England’s new model energy conservation program. Retx will serve as the program’s application service provider for LMD’s use by customers in the New England Power Pool (NEPOOL). The program is planned to begin by the middle of May. The Retx LMD was adapted for ISO NE to help their large-scale, end-use energy customers closely monitor energy market prices and manage their curtailment and resulting savings. ISO New England reports that if the program achieves full subscription it could result in significant reductions in energy use and air pollution, as well as promoting conservation. In addition, ISO New England says the program could lead to savings in excess of $30 million. Ross Malme, President and CEO of Retx said, “ISO New England is the first regional effort to recognize the importance of giving end-use customers the power to sensibly control their own economic dispatch points, and directly realize the benefits. Customer choice and customer controls are powerful tools in helping to shape and stabilize the volatile energy market, and to prevent the kind of chaos we see elsewhere.” NEPOOL approved the program and filed the plan with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission on Monday, March 19, 2001. Their plan is to allow customers throughout the New England region to structure agreements with NEPOOL members, subject to state regulatory policies. The customers will be equipped with Retx’s LMD, allowing them to monitor electricity market costs on a near real time basis. They can then choose to curtail their loads or activate their own generation and benefit from the resulting savings. In both cases the customer will be paid for reducing their consumption. ISO New England Inc. is the not-for-profit corporation responsible for the day-to-day reliable operation of New England’s bulk power grid, as well as administrator of the region’s wholesale electricity marketplace. ISO New England is based in Holyoke, Massachusetts. It’s Web site can be found at www.iso-ne.com. Retx works throughout North America with electric and gas distribution utilities, load serving entities, ISOs, and retail energy service providers that have or will deregulate or unbundle their energy services. The company provides fully integrated and secure Web-based services customized for each company, including customer enrollment, meter information management, retail settlements, curtailment management, performing compliance responses, assisting with audit capability, and more. Retx also works with energy companies to plan and prepare for customer choice in future deregulating marketplaces. ...
