ATLANTA —Atlanta-based RETX, a pioneer in developing and implementing Internet-based software and solutions for the electric industry of North America, today presented a white paper supporting load response programs before the Department of Energy’s National Transmission Grid Study 2001 (NTGS2001) Atlanta workshop. “Our nation runs on electricity,” says Ross D. Malme, President and CEO or RETX. “Ensuring that energy is adequately generated and delivered is vital to our future, and DOE recognizes the need to plan for the future to guarantee this. However, we also believe and have demonstrated that a robust demand management system is as important in developing a reliable and affordable energy system. And today we argued that case.” Citing the work that RETX has done with ISO New England, Malme presented a paper detailing how load response programs can successfully stabilize energy delivery and costs, and prove beneficial in mitigating environmental issues. Says Malme, “This is not an either/or proposition. It’s clear our nation needs more generation and better transmission. But the solution for those needs cost billions of dollars and will be years in the making. In the meantime we can work to build load response programs in every region of the U.S. for a fraction of the cost and time. Studies have shown that a mere 5 percent reduction in demand results in a 50 percent reduction in market costs for electricity.” RETX works throughout North America with electric and gas distribution utilities, load serving entities, ISOs, and retail energy service providers. The company provides fully integrated, customized and secure Web-based services, including load management, customer enrollment, meter information management, retail settlements, curtailment management, performing compliance responses, assisting with audit capability, and more. ... |
