RETX’s ePath System can Improve Electric Grid Reliability

RETX Inc. confirms that their ePath System can improve electric grid reliability by engaging distributed generation and consumer demand response when and where needed. Grid operators, utilities, energy marketers, and consumers can benefit from ePath’s ability to surgically activate Strategic Demand Reserves (SDR). Transmission system overloads and constraints can be managed and high-energy prices can be mitigated with the deployment of SDR at the right time and in the right location.

RETX is the leading provider of Internet-based energy information and demand response tools to the energy industry. The ePath System is based on patented business processes and system technology that provides energy market visibility, two-way communication tools, event scheduling and monitoring, and settlement calculations. The US Patent Office granted RETX a patent for this application in March 2003.

Strategic Demand Reserves provide the insurance needed during grid emergencies like the “Blackout of 2003” or when energy market prices are high. SDR is a key component to a safe and reliable electric grid. Improved transmission systems, adequate capacity levels and SDR are three main requirements of a comprehensive national energy plan.

“Investments in infrastructure and generation resources are a critical part of the long term solution to our nations energy security. But as we work through the environmental impact studies, plant and wire locations, and financial considerations, we must address short-term grid reliability issues. The only short term answer is the development of a Strategic Demand Reserve,” states Ross Malme, CEO and President, RETX. “SDR is the most effective and least expensive risk management insurance available today. More importantly, it can be called upon to balance specific substation and/or transmission line problems. The surgical nature of SDR radically increases its value in the market. In fact, some areas such as Southwest Connecticut have used SDR to mitigate serious transmission constraints for the last few years. RETX puts the power of information at its customers’ fingertips so that they can make better, faster, and more knowledgeable decisions.”

RETX works throughout North America with electric utilities, load serving entities, Independent System Operators, and retail energy service providers to provide fully integrated, customized and secure Web-based services to support their business processes and customer needs, including load management and energy use analysis tools, customer enrollment, meter information management, settlements, and more. ...
